The Importance of Being Earnest

By Oscar Wilde

Directed by Callum Dinnett

The last of Oscar Wilde’s drawing room plays, The Importance of Being Earnest, a Trivial Comedy for Serious People follows the affairs of Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncreiff as they attempt to lead double lives to woo Gwendolen and Cecily, the women of their affections. In doing so, both take on the identity of the fictitious Ernest in their attempts to woo their desired partner.

When the two young men, and their prospective loves, arrive at Jack’s country house at the same time, chaos and comedy erupt as crises threaten to spoil their ruse and romance, as the young men navigate the presence of a cavalcade of characters who bring even further chaos.
